What is worsted wool? and what is semi-worsted wool? Does that make it stronger, softer, shaggier?

Thanks for your question!
So, woolen, semi-worsted, and worsted refer to how the fibers are arranged in a single ply yarn. Woolen yarns are arranged as haphazardly as possible to increase the number of air spaces in the yarn. These air spaces make the pile of the rug light and fuzzy but it also means there is less twist to preserve the rug's character. This also means the rugs is less stable.
Worsted yarn fibers are arranged parallel with one another so there is as little space between the fibers as possible. This makes the wool yarns smooth, heavy, and strong. These yarns are less prone to felting as well.
Semi-worsted yarn is in between the two extremes of woolen and worsted. Semi-worsted refers to spinning a woolen-style yarn with a worsted-style spinning technique. Semi-woolen is worsted-style yarns with a woolen-style technique. However, many yarns that are categorized as "semi-worsted" are nearly indistinguishable from worsted.

The area rug I ordered for my guest bedroom was even lovelier than I expected, and the quality very good. Well worth the price - which, incidentally, was better than anyone else's!
