Chenille is a type of cotton yarn known for its softness. Chenille yarn is made by twisting short lengths of yarn (pile) between two core yarns. This technique causes the pile to stand at right angles, giving chenille its characteristic feeling. Chenille may appear to have a slightly shiny sheen because the weave of the rug allows fibers to reflect light in a unique way. Most chenille rugs are all cotton, but acrylic, rayon and olefin are also used occasionally.
