Silk rugs are beautiful, unique decorative accents that have been manufactured for centuries all over the world. People in China and India were harvesting the silk from these worms as early as 2600 B.C., giving these rugs a long and storied history as luxury textiles. They are soft and lightweight, making them ideal accent pieces for the floor or wall. Silk has a soft, smooth texture that is not slippery, unlike many synthetic fibers.
While silk may not be a very stain-resistant material, but most stains are easily cleaned at home. When stains do occur, provided that the stain is not allowed to set, begin by blotting excess liquid with a clean, absorbent cloth. Then blot the stain with water or club soda until it is gone. Silk area rugs are sometimes combined with more durable, stain-resistant materials like wool and are much easier to clean, while still retaining the beauty and unique look of rugs made out of one hundred percent silk.
