Floral motifs, sophisticated graphic patterns and modern damasks take center stage in the Carmel collection. Styles for today's relaxed living these fashion inspired patterns feature color palettes that are decorator friendly and offer the consumer an easy decorating choice. The Carmel collection of rugs are woven on Wilton looms in the U.S.A. of premium quality 2-ply nylon yarn to impart a soft hand and dense pile that is durable and easy to clean. Specially twisted and space-dyed yarn gives each rug a multi-hued "strio" reminiscent of fine hand-woven rugs. 10-12 colors in each pattern provide up to 36 shade variations to create vivid and lively decorating solutions.

Karastan has been a rug innovator since 1928. American retailer and textile manufacturer Marshall Field built a loom capable of recreating the detailed craftsmanship of a hand-woven rug. From the moment the first Karastan came off the loom, the Karastan name became synonymous with elegant machine-made rugs that rivaled their handmade counterparts. The Story Began in 1928. In a North Carolina mill during the 1920’s, Marshall Field & Co. created an exciting and innovative product – machine-made oriental design rugs of high quality at realistic prices. These elegant new rugs, almost impossible to distinguish from imported originals, were introduced by Wanamaker’s New York department store in 1928, and the Karastan brand was born.
