pr2.jpgThere’s no doubt that you’ve seen them around before because they are so striking to the eyes they can’t be missed. Oriental Rugs have a special texture and quality that you can’t miss; their designs are some of the most intricate that you’ll find anywhere and the people who manufacture these rugs are some of the finest craftsman on the planet. Oriental rugs of all descriptions come from places as far away as China and Turkey. These are the rugs that have gained a certain public fame over the last century at least partially because in one of the indicators of an Oriental Rugs quality, the knots per square inch, this variety consistently scores the highest. It’s not unusual to find one of these rugs with upwards of 1000 knots per square inch.

The history of the oriental rug is almost as time honored as the history of the human race itself. Although the exact date in the rug’s history have been lost for good, there is the famous documented case of the Russian archaeological expedition that found a meticulously designed saddle cover that was frozen solid and later found to be from the 4th or 5th century B.C. This was considered one of the earliest Oriental Rugs and subsequently named the Pazyryk carpet.

Today’s Oriental Rugs are things of beauty and the craftsmanship that has survived through the ages is apparent in each and every one. Still, when one sees some of the breath taking examples from the Surya Collections ,  you’re sure to get a sense of the vast history behind each of the Adana Area Rugs.  The designs for each of these rugs originated in Turkish villages in the 16th and 17th century and the symmetrical knots used here are the same ones that were used in the original Turkish rugs.

When you look at some of the Oriental Rugs in that collection, it’s easy to understand that there was a recognized era called the Golden age for Persian rug making.  There are a number of the best examples that were so well made they survive to this day, and their superior craftsmanship stands as a testament to the fine work of those craftsman from long ago.

Remember that you don’t need to have a time machine to see some of the finest Oriental rugs that money has to offer. Some of the best call be viewed in the Surya Collections as these have been designed with a sense of history in mind.
